Gum Grafting

The primary goal of gum grafting is to prevent additional gum recession. Additionally, gum grafting is utilized to cover as much of the exposed portion of the root surface as possible. When the recession is too severe, root coverage may not be possible. Gum grafting can be achieved with three different techniques, the Pinhole Surgical Technique (perhaps we can create a link to the PST section), borrowing gum tissue from a different portion of the patient’s mouth, or a donor graft utilizing tissue from a cadaver. Dr. Lane will discuss with you which of the techniques will provide you with the best possible outcome. Additionally, he will discuss your potential for root coverage.

Cosmetic Benefits

Those who feel their teeth are too large or who are embarrassed by the amount of tooth showing can also benefit from gum grafting procedures. Gum grafting can be used to alter the gum line to a more attractive level. Doing so will reduce the amount of tooth shown and increase the overall health of the teeth and gums.

There are three types of gum grafting surgery. Which type Dr. Lane uses will depend on each person's unique situation and specific needs.
